is elden ring cross platform and cross play?

If you’ve not heard of Elden Ring then I don’t know where you’ve been..In 2022, it won game of the year and there’s a very good reason why. It’s a brilliant game.

Is Elden Ring Cross Platform?

This is a question I see quite a lot.

Understandably because you may want to play with your friends, no matter what platform you’re on.

In this article, we’ll have a look at whether or not Elden Ring is Cross-Platform or not.

Key Takeaways

  • No Elden Ring is NOT Cross Platform
  • Yes It is Cross Generation
  • No Plans For Cross Platform Functionality

Is Elden Ring Cross Platform?

No unfortunately Elden Ring is NOT cross platform.

Which is a shame, one of the best things about this game is its accessibility.

You can play it on the PC, Xbox, PS4 and PS5. Even though it does support all of these different platforms, you currently cannot cross play.

So if you’re on the PS5, you will not be able to play with anyone on Xbox or PC.

Does Elden Ring Support Cross-Gen Play?

Even though you cannot play Elden Ring cross platform, it is Cross Gen. But what exactly does that mean?

If you’re on PS5, you are not able to play with anyone on Xbox or PC.

However, since it is cross-gen, you can play with others on the same brand of console.

Therefore, if you’re on your PS4, you can play and then pick it up on your PS5 and be in the same place.

This is ideal for those that decide to upgrade consoles whilst playing the game.

Will Elden Ring Get Cross-Platform?

No, I don’t think they’ll add cross platform anytime soon. It’s typically a feature that is available when the game is launched.

Not really something you’ll add after the game has been released.

If however they do make Elden Ring Cross-Platform, I’m sure many fans will be happy. Although I expect even more fans would want Elden Ring 2.

Does the Elden Ring Have Cross-Progression?

Yes, Elden Ring does offer Cross-Progression.

This is really good to see as it’s certainly not the easiest game.

The only drawback to this is that it’s only cross-progression if you’re using the same family of consoles.

So if you started off on the PS4, you could continue where you left off when you upgrade to PS5. It’s the same for the Xbox.

However if you went from PS4 to Xbox Series X, you wouldn’t be able to keep the save and you’ll have to start again.

How Does Elden Ring Multiplayer Work?

Elden Ring is classed as a solo game, although it is possible to have some co-op. If there is a tough boss you want a bit of help with, you can use summon signs to get your friends or other players to join you.

There are however some risks, as some players may want to invade your game.

In order to do multiplayer, you need a specific item;

  • Furlcalling Finger Remedy – Summon players to your game
  • Tarnished Furled Finger – Enter another player’s world
  • Duelist’s Furled Finger – Enable PvP
  • Bloody Finger – Invade another players game

So even though there is an element of multiplayer, Elden Ring is NOT cross platform or Cross play. You can only do Co-Op with those on the same family of console or PC.
