This is because the game is stored locally.

You can either turn your single player game into a multiplier or you can start fresh into a multiplayer game. 

Creating a NEW Multiplayer Game In Stardew Valley

You can create a new multiplayer game really easily in Stardew Valley. 

• On the main menu select “Co-Op”
• Select “Host New Farm”
• Customize your character farm, favorite animal and thing. 
• Set preferences to;

  • Cabin Layout
  • Profit Margins
  • Money Style
• Type of Farm 
• Select “Okay” and Start The Game
• In-Game select Menu and go to “Invite Friend” / You can also select “Show Invite Code”
• They should now be able to join you. 

Making Your Current Game Multiplayer in Stardew Valley

What if you want to invite your friends to join you at your farm that you’ve already created. 

This is possible and also very simple to do. 

• In your Farm you need to go to the Carpenter’s Shop and build a Cabin. 
• You’ll need one for each of your friends
• Go to the main menu and select “Co-Op”
• You can then invite them or share your invite code
