First Impressions

When you first look at the Razer viper v2 pro, it looks a little basic.

Its not until you begin to use it that it’s anything but basic.

Following on from a previous generation of wireless gaming mice. The Razer Viper v2 pro is a vast improvement to the Razer Viper Ultimate.

This mouse has been produced with competitive gamers in mind, making sure that its lightweight, comfortable and will have the performance to give you that edge on the battle field.

It’s a fantastic gaming mouse but when you do compare it to most gaming mice, it is fairly expensive.

Now when you think about what you’re getting, some do believe its more than worth it.

Afterall, its a mouse that you shouldn’t have to replace for many years, no matter how hard you work it during your gaming sessions.

Design/Shape

The shape of the Viper V2 Pro is pretty much the same as the previous mode. So if you’ve used previous models you’ll know what it feels like.

Because of the shape of the mouse its only suitable for right handed uses. If you usea claw or fingertip grip, this mouse will do the job. Palm grip uses might find it harder to use.

Design wise, Razer are keeping it traditional with the Viper V2 Pro and not changing too much. (Why bother when the design was so good?)

One of the biggest differences was them removing the right side button. Making this a 5 button mouse instead of a 6 button.

I personally love this change. I would continue to press that button by accident.

Another slight change is the weight of the Razer viper v2 pro.

The previous Viper Pro weighed in at 74 grams, where as the V2 is only 58 grams. Not a massive difference but it can make a difference in a FPS standoff when you need to be able to lift off distance and move quickly.

Now for a couple of things that some people didnt like to much. Personally these things didnt bother me, but I’ve seen a few complaints in Facebook groups so thought its worth sharing.

Razer have decided to remove the charging dock, allowing you to up it on charge when not using. I never used this but can see why some people would.

It now uses the USB C charging cable. Which makes sense as everything uses them now.

They’ve also removed the compartment to place the USB dongle, I expect to help reduce the weight of the mouse.

This does seem like an odd design change, when not using where are you supposed to keep the dongle? Now its pretty much plugged in all the time, not ideal if I want to travel with it.

The final major change is the RGB on the mouse, or should I say lack of.

The Razer logo on the V1 used a RGB light, where as on the V2 it is just printed on. Not a massive issue but it is nice to have some RGB lighting on a gaming mouse.

Now a change that’s seen mixed feedback is the rubber isde grips on the Razer Viper V1. Some people liked them, some hated them.

So in the V2 Pro, Razer have removed them completely and now use an all-plastic design.

I liked the rubber, it offered some additional grip. The only problem is that over time it would start to wear away.

Razer have however found a way to satisfiy everyone.

In the box, you’ll find some rubber grips that can be placed onto the mouse. These can also be replaced when they wear away!

Build Quality

Razer are known for creating high quality gaming accessories and the Viper V2 Pro is no different.

The shell of the mouse feels sturdy and solid. There are no rattles or loose parts.

I’ve tested a number of gaming mice in the past. From cheap to expensive. You can always tell the build quality of a cheap mouse.

Certainly not the case of this…

The build quality of the Razer viper v2 pro is very, very good!

Focus Pro 30K Optical Sensor

The key to a good mouse is it having a good sensor.

The Viper V2 Pro uses a Focus Pro 30k sensor. This makes it even more accurate and excellent response.

You can change the range of CPI, up to 30,000 with a polling rate of up to 1000Hz.

This means you can pick a mouse sensitivity that suits you and the type of game you play.

Something that Razer do claim is that the sensor can actually track on different surfaces. I’ve had gaming mice in the past that struggled to work on my glass desk, not an issue with the Viper V2 Pro.

Now the issue with a powerful sensor is that it can drain the battery quicker. Not an issue with this mouse.

Compared with the V1, Razer have spent time optimising the sensor. In fact, you’ll get an extra 10 hours of battery life. This mouse should give you up to 80 hours of battery!

From the amount of time I was testing it with the last season of Fortnite, it certainly does last.

The Focus Pro 20K sensor also helps when your lifting up your mouse and tracking distance. This is due to its Smart tracking, Asymmetric cut off and Motion Sync Technology.

This sensor is a massive improvement on previous generations.

Feet

The Razer viper v2 pro uses 3 PTFE feel, unlike the Razer Viper Ultimate that uses 4 feet. These pads are solid and help you to glide the mouse smoothly.

Mouse Buttons

Lets talk about what makes this mouse really good, the buttons!

I always found the buttons on the left a little hard to press. With the V2 Pro, these have been improved as they now stick out a bit more. Making it much easier for me to click.

In fact overall the buttons have been improved on the Razer Viper V2 Pro than the Viper Ultimate.

They just feel more sturdy and a lot easier to click.

Now onto the scroll wheel.

Sometimes this is where some mice fall down, as the scroll wheel tends to have abit too much movement, noise or just feels cheap.

This is NOT the case with this gaming mouse.

The scroll wheel feels smooth and has a nice rubber coating to prevent the finger slipping.

Something to note if your looking for the competitive edge is Razer’s Optical Mouse Switches Gen-3.

These are said to give up to 90 million clicks and I believe it will due to how sturdy it is.

Wireless

When it comes to using a mouse for gaming, the wire can really get in the way. Thats why I prefer a wireless mouse.

The concern when it comes to competitive play is that its just not as quick to respond.

The wireless connectivity opf the Razer Viper V2 Pro is excellent and I’ve not experience any lag.

As mentioned before, it no longer uses the charging doc but instead uses a USB C Cable. This still charges it up quickly and with the improvements the V2 Pro offers 10 hours longer battery life than on the Viper ultimate.

So you’ll get up to 80 hours of game time with the Razer viper v2 pro.

Synapse 3 Software on Razer Viper V2 Pro

All gaming mice that offers programmable buttons will have some form of software for you to use. Many of these are not that great.

Razer do however have their own software called Synapse 3. And it’s pretty decent.

Like it or not, the Razer Viper V2 Pro doesnt have any RGB lighting. So you wont be able to change that with the software.

You’re still able to adjust a wide range of things on the mouse, from how sensitive you want the mouse to the power levels.

The mouse has 5 DPI settings to choose from.

Now the Razer Viper V2 Pro is more of a FPS style mouse due to it only having 5 buttons. BUT it can make a great mmo mouse as well.

By using the Razer Hypershift, you can add another layer of functions on the buttons. In theory giving you 10 buttons to play with.

The problem I’ve had with some software is that it can be a little bit confusing on what you need to do. Even though there are a lot of functions with the software, you’ll soon get to grips with it.

Plus you’ll be able to find plenty of tutorials on YouTube.

What Do Others Think?

This Razer viper v2 pro review has been written from my own thoughts on the gaming mouse. It’s also important to get some other peoples thoughts as well.

So, I’ve gone through the internet and looked for some other peoples comments to share them here.

One user from Reddit who played around 50 hours of CSGO, found the V2 Pro much better than other Razer mice. In fact its gotten him back into using it.

He did comment that the coating on the mouse gave it a little bit more grip, so he didnt need to use the grips. I have to admit, the mouse felt nice and sturdy in my hand.

One comment he said was about the weight, which is something I can relate to. He never thought that weight would matter, unless it was above 89g.

Since using the Razer viper v2 pro, the lighter weight has made it feel different and for the better. FPS games are so much easier with a lighter mouse than a heavier one.
