One of the best ways of getting better at Fortnite is by spectating other players. Learning what they do in situations and also what load out they use. It’s actually also pretty fun just watching people play. In this article, I’m going to show you exactly how to spectate in Fortnite.
Now it’s not as easy as it once was to watch your friends play Fortnite, although it is possible.
Whether you’re new to Fortnite or you’ve been playing it for a while, don’t just get ready and jump out of the Battle Bus.
When I first started playing Fortnite, I’d pretty much die as soon as I landed. No matter if I’d jump out at the start of the game or wait until the last stop.
I’ll always say, the best way of playing better is to play..BUT
A great way is to watch other people play!
So if you want to watch your friend play Fortnite, here’s what you need to do.
Key Takeaway
- You can spectate your friends, you need to be in their lobby first
- Your friend needs to have been playing for 30 seconds before you can spectate
- The only way to spectate strangers games is to be eliminated by them
- It’s worth spending the time to spectate other players to learn their playstyle, strategies and loadouts.
How to Spectate Friends in Fortnite Chapter 3
You’ll notice that the “Watch Game” function is no longer available, when your trying to spectate your friends in Fortnite.
What you have to do now is join your friends’ lobby. Now you cannot spectate them right away.
You need to wait until they’ve been in their game for thirty seconds. You’ll then get an option to spectate your friends. It’s not a terrible wait but certainly adds an extra step into being able to watch them play.
Why Did Epic Remove Watch Now Feature?
It’s really hard to know why this feature was removed. Fortnite was and probably still is one of the most popular games to stream. The problem with this is that stream sniper became a thing.
Where people would basically watch a stream and would go and try to kill that streamer.
This began to annoy a lot of streamers and probably put a fair few of them off from player. So Epic needed to do something about it.
Now they have not said why it was removed, although many people do believe its because of stream sniping.
It’s not completely gotten rid of sniping but with the delay and this feature being removed, it certainly makes it harder.
Can You Spectate Non Friends In Fortnite?
Yes you can spectate people that are not your friends in Fortnite, although its a little more limited.
The only way you can spectate in Fortnite is if you’re eliminated. So not ideal as you want to win but you can make the most of a bad situation.
Whilst you decide if you want to start a new match or go to the lobby, you’ll be spectating the person that killed you.
DO NOT rush to stop spectating
It’s actually fun watching other people playing and seeing how they play.
At the same time, you can also learn a lot.
You can see different play styles, different strategies and different weapon loadouts.
All of this helps you to improve how you play the game and hopefully help reduce the chance of you getting eliminated.
Final Thoughts
There you have it..
Hopefully now you know how to spectate in Fortnite.
It still surprises me how many don’t bother spectating friends or people that have eliminated them. You can learn so much by just watching other people playing. This is why I also recommend checking our Fortnite streams on Twitch. You’ll pick up a number of things that will make you a better player and ultimately help you to take more Victory Royales.
